MASAZA CUP: Convincing victories for Buwekula, Ssingo and Busiro

A total of 18 goals were scored as the 2018 Airtel Masaza Cup resumed over the weekend. Among the biggest winners was Busiro, Ssingo and Buwekula who thumped defending champions Gomba.

Buwekula beat Gomba 3-0 at Kasenyi grounds in Mubende courtesy of an Ivan Bogere hat-trick. In the same match, Buwekula’s Livingstone Mbigho was sent off for unsporting behavior.

The other Group A game saw Kyaddondo earn a walk-over victory after Kabula failed to turn up at Gayaza High school grounds.

Victory helped Buwekula dislodge Gomba from the summit of Group A with 12 points garnered from 5 games.

In Group C, Ssingo ran riot over Butambala with a 4-1 win. Goals from George Kiryowa and John Musasizi supplemented a Jude Semugabi at Mityana Saza grounds while Moses Jagwe scored a consolation for Butambala.

Kyaggwe fought to a 2-1 away win against Mawogola in Sembabule courtesy of a brace from Jackson Semugabi. Theodrous Makuhubya scored Mawogola’s lone goal on the evening.

2016 Winners Buddu edged their neighbors Kkooki with a 2-0 win at Masaka Recreation grounds thanks to a goal from Kato Umar and a well converted Brian Oyuka penalty.

In Group D, Mawokota put to an end of Busujju’s unbeaten run with a 1-0 hard fought victory at Mpigi police grounds. Kudrat Lubega scored the all important goal for the 3-time champions.

Busiro thumped Buluuli 4-0 at Sentema grounds thanks to goals from Mohammed Matovu, Ivan Mayanja and a brace from Brian Kayanja.

The Airtel sponsored tournament will resume over the weekend with 8 games whereas Groups consisting 4 teams will climax. That is Group A and B.
