Masaza cup: Bugerere and Bulemeezi advance to the quarters finals

Gomba topped Group C after thumping lock bottom side Busujju 4-1. Lutakome Junior had put Busujju ahead earlier on in the first seven minutes of the game but Gomba fought back through goals from Ssentongo Peter, Janjali Joseph and a late brace from Sserunga Allan.

Winger and former Buwekula skipper Nvule Jamil Kisitu’s second half volley was the only goal of the match as Ssingo edged his former side Buwekula 1-0 at Kasenyi grounds. Nvule found the back of the net in the 78th minute with an exquisite strike capitalising on a lose ball punched off Semugabi Jude’s cross.

Gomba and Ssingo progress through to the Quarter finals with 14 and 13 points respectively from six games. Allan Kabonge’s Buwekula finished third with 5 points while Busujju came fourth with only 1 point.

In Group A, Mawokota were the biggest winners over the weekend with a 3-0 away win against Butambala at Kibibi SS grounds. Zziwa Vincent put Mawokota ahead in with a quarter an hour played. Striker Kalumba Brian doubled the lead with his fourth strike of season in the 72nd minute. Basangwa Richard sealed the game off with the third for the 3-time champions.

At Magyo grounds, a first half brace from Kalule Richard guided Busiro to a 2-0 away victory over Buvuma. He scored in the 38th and 45th minutes to secure three points for Busiro. Kalule’s double didn’t not only take his tally to 3 goals this season but also sunk Buvuma’s thinnest chance to progress to the next stage.

Qualification from Group A is back on wire with the top four teams currently separated with only 3 points. Kyaddondo still top the group with 11 points from 6 games, Mawokota are second on 10 points from 7 games, Busiro are third with 9 points from 6 games while Butambala are 4th with 8 points from 6 games. Buvuma who had an impressive start have 5 points and lie 5th with no chance of Qualification.

In Group B, tragedy followed a goalless draw between Kkooki and Buddu as two fans from Buddu perished following an accident. Bukenya Akbar and Mulindwa Ronald were travelling on an over speeding motorcycle and crushed into a truck dying off instantly.

However, In the same group, Kabula earned a 1-0 win against Ssese with at Bakijulula grounds. Buddu tops the group with 15 points from 7 games, Kkooki comes second with 10 points, Kabula is 3rd on 9 points from 7 games played. Ssese is fourth while Mawogola are playing for nothing but pride sitting bottom on the log with 3 points.

Elsewhere, Bugerere and Bulemeezi shared spoils in the last game of Group D. Bugerere took the lead through talisman Baker Buyala who also netted his fourth of the campaign. However, Walaga Mike levelled matters and secured a point for Bulemeezi.

“We had a bad in office because we did not play as per as our A game.” Said Bugerere assistant coach Kalungi Bashir.

The match between Buluuli and Kyaggwe was not played as Buluuli were reportedly have came for the game without Player licenses. A ruling upon the match is expected to be made by the Masaza Organising Committee very soon.

A draw in Kayunga confirms qualification of both Bulemeezi and Bugerere from group D unconditionally without the verdict from the Buluuli vs Kyaggwe game. Bulemeezi and Bugerere have collected 11 points each.

Kyaggwe have no chance of qualification as they wait for a boardroom decision pertaining their would be match against Buluuli. After 5 games, they have 7 points, 4 behind behind Bugerere and Bulemeezi while 2011 Cup winners Buluuli sit bottom of the table after collecting two points only.
