The Airtel sponsored Masaka cup returns this weekend on different play grounds across Buganda Kingdom. Defending champions Buddu are yet to hit the running and they host Kkooki at Masaka recreation grounds ,onfire Ssingo visit their nemesis Gomba in Kabulasoke and Busiro host neighbours Kyaddondo at Sentema Wakiso.
Today 28th May, 2017, 7 games will be played on various grounds, but the game between Gomba and Ssingo is touted to be the game of the weekend.
Gomba is in second place on 4 points while their opponents Ssingo are top on 6 points in group C.
The past 4 meetings have seen these sides share spoils, as Ssingo beat Gomba 3-0 and 2-0 home and away respectively in 2015, and Gomba returned the favor in 2016 with an identical 2-0 win both home and away.
Ssingo assistant coach Felix Ssekabuuza says,
“We are well prepared for the game though Kisitu Nvule Jamil and Birungi Erias are all out injured”.
Ssingo’s Shafiq Bisaso’s last meeting with counterpart Ddungu Simon was in 2014.
Gomba won 1-0 in the quarterfinals and this game led to the sacking of Dungu Simon aka “Ddunga” by Buwekula. Gomba will rely on striker Mudaali Derrick, masaza veteran Muwonge Amos Agogo and creative pacy winger Ssekyewa Robert.
In group D, Kyagwe visit Bulemeezi at Kasana, and Kyagwe coach Jimmy Papa says, “My boys are in good condition and ready for the game though we are away from home”
Kyagwe snatched 4 points off Bulemezi last year drawing away in Kasana and winning at home.
Defending champions Buddu who are yet to win a game in the tournament host Kkooki at Masaka recreation looking for their first win.
Buddu’s Steven Bogere says,
“We have no injury worries, only Kasozi Kennedy is yet to get a licence since Mawokota put up complaints and yesterday we were in Mengo working on his issues.
“The truth is, we miss him since we have no out and out striker of his calibre and our problem so far is scoring,” added the Buddu tactian.
Buvuma host Butambala at Kasaali,
” The team is very ready and midfielder Nende Zafaru who had been injured is back.
“We won the first game since the Masaza returned in 2004 and we want to reach the last four“,
