MASAZA CUP : 2019 Masaza cup groups named after Buganda cultural buildings

The 2019 Airtel Masaza cup edition groups have been renamed using Buganda Kingdom building names Masengere, Muganzirwaza, Butikkiro and Bulange.

In the previous editions groups were named by use of alphabetical order format.

Last year’s winners winners Ssingo have been grouped alongside record winners Gomba (4 times), Bugerere, Buvuma and Ssese in Masengere group.

2016 and last year’s runners up Buddu are in group Butikkiro with three time Champions Mawokota, Mawogola, 2012 winners Bulemeezi and 2006 champions Kkoki.

Muganzirwaza group comprises of teams that have never won the championship, these are Busujju, Kabula, Kyaggwe and Butambala.

2008 winners Kyaddondo, 2011 champions Buluuli, Busiro and Buwekula make up Bulange group.

This prestigious tournament has given rise to many stars like Tony Mawejje, Diego Hamis Kiiza, Mike Serumaga, Emmanuel Arnold Okwi, Brian Umony, Robert Odongkara, Joseph Ochaya, Geoffrey Wasswa, Pius Wangi, Ashiraf Mandela, Miya Farouk, Isaac Muleme, Yasser Mugerwa, Godfrey Walusimbi. The Airtel sponsored event is slated to kick off in June 2019.
