By: Danito Nsubuga

Abraham Ndugwa struck an 80th minute free kick to win a vital point for Masavu FC to move a step up and above Proline FC.

Their 5th consecutive draw of the second round has put them on 19 points and they are now seated in 14th, only a point less than 13th placed UPDF FC.

The Bugonga based side started the game on a high and they almost got an early breakthrough when Dumba Sadala struck a hard free kick close to the 18 yards box but the woodwork denied him with Benson Wagima already beaten.

It was Masavu who bossed most of the possession but their efforts counted for nothing as the half time whistle came at 0-0.

Brian Enzama dominated the midfield but he could not Masavu from equalising

On resumption of the second period, Bright stars changed strategy, attacking in search for an early goal and their efforts paid off 15 minutes later when Kokas Opejo beat his marker to bend home a superb curler that Salim Wekiya could not get hold of.

Masavu let lose and they threw every thing in their store at Bright stars seeking for an equalizer but Benson Wagima stood tall to thwart their attempts.

Bright stars were surely not going to hold on to the lead for so long as their defence failed to contain the in form Ndugwa and company in attack.

The opportune moment came 10 minutes full time when Masavu were handed a free kick in 19 yards, that man Ndugwa got hold of it and he perfectly struck it past the wall and ultimately far away from Wagima to level matters for Masavu.

Masavu pushed harder for the winner but it was a little too late for them and they finally settled for a point. Bright stars have maintained the 9th place with 24 points.

Their next game is a huge task to visit SC Villa in Masaka on the 14th of March. SC Villa have not lost a game neither a point at the same venue, Bright stars will host Proline FC on Match 13th.
