Makerere returns as Pepsi launches 8th edition of University Football League


The 8th edition of the Pepsi University Football league has officially been launched today at Kati Kati Restaurant, Lugogo.

Makerere University makes a return to the competition after serving their one year ban. Muni University ( Arua), Kabale University and International University of East Africa are the new entrants joining the league.

This year’s event will see an expansion of teams from 16 that competed the previous year to 19 and will involve a preliminary knockout round.

The preliminary draw involved teams that finished bottom placed last year which include Gulu University, Nkumba University and KIU facing off will the new entrants to determine who makes it to the group phase.

Below is the preliminary draw conducted today

•Makerere University VS KIU
•Gulu University Vs Muni University
•Kabale University Vs Nkumba University

International University progresses directly to the group stages via a bye draw. The fixtures are slated for 3rd February and 10th of the same month.

The competition was inaugurated in 2012 with just six teams. Kyambogo University are the reigning champions.
