Madondo in line for a Champions League debut

Joel Madondo could make his CAF Champions League debut with Wydad Casablanca in this season’s quarter finals against Etoile du Sahel.

Madondo is part of the Wydad Casablanca players registered for the CAF Champions League engagements after making a move from Busoga United in the Uganda Premier League last month.

Wydad Casablanca will be hosting Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel in the first leg slated for Saturday 29th February at 10pm at the Stade Muhammed V. in Casablanca.

The Uganda Cranes forward has so far featured in two games for the Moroccan champions which came against Difaa El Jadida and Youssoufia Berrechid in the league.

He made his debut as a second half substitute against Jadida and played 51 minutes against Youssoufia Berrechid.

The game will also be Wydad’s first under new coach Juan Carlos Garrido who will be facing his immediate former employers having been shown exit at Etoile du Sahel early this month.

The Spanish tactician replaced former Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre whose tenure only lasted for six games.

The CAF Champions League quarter finals will kick off on Friday 27th with Zamalek hosting Esperance de Tunis in Cairo.

On the same day, Joseph Ochaya’s TP Mazembe visit Raja Casablanca at the Stade Muhammed V. while Al Ahly host Denis Onyango’s Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday in Cairo.
