Ponsiano Lwakataka a two time Uganda National Rally champion won the Lake Mburo Rukaari Rally on Sunday.
Lwakataka with his Co-driver Paul Musaazi in Subaru Impreza N12b clinched the season’s opener in a time of 1hour and 32 minutes, seven minutes ahead of second placed Fred Kitaka Busuulwa.
This is Lwakataka’s fourth win in Mbarara and will be target his third NRC Championship.
Kitaka and his Co-driver Joseph Bongole finished second in a time of 1:43:11 whereas Aine Sodo was third in 1:43:48.
Duncan Mubiru Kikankane did not finish the as he dropped out of the rally when he rolled his Impreza GVB on day two of the rally.
Meanwhile, Edward Kirumira and Robert Katabalwa won the 2WD category, finishing fourth with the crew of Lubega and Mbabazi topping the top five after a dauntless drive despite failing to finish the opening day and receiving a 20-minute penalty.
