Ugandan winger William Luwaga Kizito has completed a move to Azerbaijan Premier league side Sabail FC.

Luwaga has put pen to paper on a one year employment contract with the Azerbaijan side.

He has been a free agent following the expiration of his contract at Israel side Hapoel Nof Hagalil.

Luwaga has previously featured for Vipers SC (Uganda), Portuguese sides Leixões, Covilhã and Rio Ave.

He also played for Romanian side Politehnica Iași, FC BATE Borisov (Belarus), Kazakhstan side Shakhter Karagandy before joining Hapoel Kfar Saba (Israel) and Lately Hapoel Nof HaGalil.

Luwaga has 38 National team caps with one goal and represented Uganda at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations that was staged in Gabon.

His new club FK Sabail which was formed six years ago, was home of Cranes offensive midfielder Farouk Miya in 2018. They host their home games at Bayil Stadium, which has a capacity of 3,200.

Miya played for Sabail in the 2017/18 season on loan from Belgium’s Standard Liege and played 13 games and scored two goals.

Former Chelsea and Ghana midfielder Michael Essien also played for FK Sabail in the 2019/20 season before he officially retired from football.

Luwaga’s immediate task is helping the club get a respectable finish in the league next season after finishing bottom of the 8-team table in a season that had no relegation.
