Alfred Leku was the man who guided Express to a historical march to the premier league safety on the closing day of 2017-18 season in Bugonga.

Leku scored the lone goal as Express defeated Masavu 1-0 in a match that required nothing less than a win for Express and hoped other results go their way so as to save their endangered league status.

Express was favoured by results of its close rivals, Proline fell to a 2-1 loss at the hands of URA at Lugogo whereas Vipers thumped a 10-man UPDF side at Kitende.

After a 55 minute wait, Express finally found the breakthrough when Alfred Leku controlled a long pass from Edgar Bwogi and found himself space to launch a low drive from 12 yards past Salim Wekiya.

The gigantic forward almost found himself the second when he received a quality pass from Ayub Kisalita but failed to beat an onrushing Wekiya.

Masavu brought on Benjamin Nyakojo to match Leku’s boggy prowess in the box. It was reported that Joseph Mutyaba didn’t name Nyakojo together with Patrick Senfuka and Arthur Semazzi in his starting line up on a background of alleged match fixing.

The final whistle sent Express’ faithfuls into wild celebrations for it meant Express had sealed their place in the league after spending the better part of the season in the red zone.
