The draws of the inaugural Zonal Qualifiers of the CAF Women’s Champions League have been held.
Ugandan champions Lady Doves have been drawn in Group A that also has Simba Queens of Tanzania and Burundi’s PVP FC.
Coming into the tournament draw, Simba Queens, Lady Doves and Ethiopia’s Commercial Bank FC were dubbed as the favourites.
The draw had nine teams that have been pooled in three groups of three. The team will be vying for the championship slot that will automatically be a ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Lady Doves won the 2021 FUFA Women Super League tournament played in at Njeru three months ago.
They beat rivals UCU Lady Cardinals 2-1 in the final thanks to a late winning goal by the eventual MVP Fazila Ikwaput.
The Zonal qualification tournament will be played between 17th July to August 1st in Nairobi Kenya.
The eventual winners of the tournament will represent CECAFA region in the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League to be held in Egypt.
All the six CAF Zone will send one winning team attained from the respective regional qualifiers. The six will be joined by one team from the host nation (Egypt) and another from the region that has the winning nation of the most recent Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.
Group A: Lady Doves (Uganda), PVP FC (Burundi) Simba Queens (Tanzania)
Group B: Commercial Bank FC (Ethiopia), Yei Joint Stars FC (South Sudan), New Generation (Zanzibar)
Group C: Scandinavian WFC (Rwanda), FAD Club (Djibouti), Vihiga Queens (Kenya)
