Lady Cricket Cranes trip to Rwanda cancelled due to Covid-19 outbreak

The Uganda Cricket Association has cancelled the Lady Cricket Cranes trip to Rwanda for the Kwibuka Women’s international T20 tournament due to the outbreak of Covid-19 in the traveling team.

The statement from the UCA reads,

“Unfortunately, due to some Covid-19 positive tests within the Lady Cricket Cranes bio- bubble, we have been forced to bite the bullet and cancel their trip to Kigali, Rwanda for the Kwibuka Women’s Twenty 20 tournament at the 11th hour.”

A comprehensive investigation will be taking place as to how this situation came about.”

“We have cancelled all cricket until further notice, including the men’s Twenty 20 league, Cricket Cranes, Lady Cricket Cranes and U19 Boys’ cricket cranes training untile further notice. Our plea is that everyone goes into self isolation for at least 10 days as we pledged to support.”

The team was to depart for Kigali today evening and quarantine for a day before playing their first game on June 6th against Botswana.

Uganda’s withdrawal means that only hosts Rwanda, three time winners Kenya and debutants Botswana, Nigeria and Namibia are the five nations who will take part that was incepted in 2014.
