Ugandan forward Hassan Kikoyo came off the bench to score a late winning goal as his side Kakamega Homeboyz edged Kariobangi Sharks 2-1 in Kenyan Premier League action at Camp Toyoyo.
Noah Wafula opened the scoring for Homeboyz with a close range finish in the 37th minute to hand his side a first half lead.
Sharks levelled matters 10 minutes into the second half courtesy of a Paul Kamau’s low drive from outside the box.
The game was destined for a stalemate until substitute Hassan Kikoyo took the matters by his hands to restore Homeboyz’s lead courtesy of a sublime strike from outside the box with 10 minutes to normal time.
The former Bright Stars and Lweza FC high flying attacker had came on for Keiphas Mutuu earlier on.
Victory takes Kakamega Homeboyz to 16 points elevating them to 10th place to dislodge Kariobangi Sharks who are now 11th with 14 points.
Kariobangi Sharks’ next game will be against Baker Lukooya’s AFC Leopards on Wednesday 25th April. Kikoyo and his team mates will host Zoo Kericho on Wednesday 2nd May in their subsequent league fixture.
Elsewhere, Mathew Odong’s 80th minute consolation goal was not enough for Sam Timbe’s Tusker as they continued to stagger with a 3-1 loss to Zoo Kericho. Tusker is 14th on the 18-team log with only 10 points gathered from 11 outings.
