Sofapaka’s patchy performance since the departure of Sam Ssimbwa aggravated with a 1-0 home loss against Kenya Premier League newly promoted side Wazito FC at Ruaraka stadium on Sunday.
Goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya squandered a glorious chance to put Sofapaka ahead with only 9 minutes played when he failed to convert from the spot recording his 1st penalty miss of the season after having converted the previous 3 successfully.
Rogers Aloro had come close to making up for his compatriot’s early miss but his well taken free kick hit the left post and was subsequently cleared away by the Wazito FC defenders.
Another chance fell to the struggling Batoto W’amungu at the start of the second period, Willis Ouma also had his free kick kiss the left post following a foul on Kepha Aswani.
On the other half, Wazito broke the deadlock in the 67th minute through Swed Tumba who finished off a well delivered corner kick with a close range tap in.
Sofapaka who are currently under the interim tutelage of John Baraza are winless in the last 5 and have only managed two draws and a defeat since the resignation of Sam Ssimbwa early this month.
The slim defeat slumps them to the 9th position with 18 points accumulated from 13 league games. Wazito FC currently lies one point behind Sofapaka in the 10th position.
Next on card for Sofapaka will be a visit to Jonathan Mugabi’s Vihiga United on Sunday 6th May whereas Wazito FC will play hosts to Thika United on the same date.
