Slick and ambidextrous midfielder Daniel Shabena has been the outstanding performer for the JMC Hippos despite the Kakindu based club having a poor run this season. The cunning but sedulous former KJT winger has had a hand in 50% of JMC’s goals.
His versatility in the third half enables him to use both feet and play on both wings. His sumptuous touch, agility, dribbling abilities and ability to strike from distance has produced 3 goals and 5 assists for the Hippos
Just like Kcca’s Paul Mucurezi and Vipers’ Aggrey Madoi, Daniel’s footballing journey roots from Kabale with Kigezi High School before he switched to Lugazi Homeland where he linked up with the company of Musa Esenu, Timothy Awany, Bayo Fahd and Old boy Aggrey Madoi.
He joined Risah Standard Lugazi for his A’ Level education where he was summoned on the Eastern Region Team which later won the Fufa Inter-Region Tournament in Arua.
At Club level, he joined KJT and guided them to a Uganda Premier League promotion with three crucial goals and his maiden top flight season saw him notch four goals for KJT.
After his A Level, The tricky midfielder sought for greener pastures in Jinja and played part in JMC’s impressive 2015-16 season.
Although he spent much time on the sidelines, He was able to score against “The Big Boys” save for SC Villa and champions Kcca. He scored against Express, URA in Lugazi and Vipers at Kakindu
His creativity and a keen eye for goal elevated him to the pantheon earning him a call on the U20 national team last season.
