Henry Kitegenyi scored the all important goal as Mbarara City edged Vipers SC 1-0 on Saturday at Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara.

The Venoms arrived at Kakyeka looking to stretch their unbeaten run to 12 and seeking for a fourth straight win.

Kitegenyi netted against his former paymasters four minutes into the second with a sensational left footed strike leaving custodian Bashir Sekagye helpless.

Sadiq Ssempigi, somehow kept it cool while Fred Kajoba looked like a man who couldn’t believe what was unfolding in front of him during a sunny day in Mbarara.

Was this really his team, his mentality giants, the boys who could fall into a viper’s pit and come out wearing snakeskin shoes? Was this Vipers, or their evil.

This was the Ankole Lions first win over Vipers in seven games.

The result sees Vipers stay second placed with 27 points and one behind current leaders Express who overcame Busoga United 1-0 on Friday.

Victory sees Mbarara City move to 10th position with 13 points garnered in 12 games.

Mbarara City will next travel to Onduparaka FC on Tuesday while Vipers SC will host SC Villa on Wednesday.
