Kenya Premier League side Sofapaka FC have released four Ugandan players ahead of the mid season transfer window that opens in January.

The four include Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Ismail Watenga who has been the club’s first choice custodian ahead of Richard Aimo and Isaiah Wakasala.

Midfielder Mohamed Kasirye and defenders Allan Katwe and Musa Malunda are the other players shown exit four months after joining the Batoto Ba Mungu.

The quartet was signed in the August but has been deemed surplus to requirements by the head coach John Baraza who took charge of the club in November.

Swift Sports sources understand that Watenga is on a move but his destination remains a mystery. Nicholas Ssebwato has been signed to replace the former Vipers goalkeeper.

Unlike Watenga who has played a big part in Sofapaka’s 13 games this season, Malunda, Kasirye and Katwe have had playing time hard to come their way.

For starters, Kasirye is a former Paidha Black Angels and The Saints FC midfielder. Malunda has previously played for Vipers, CRO and most recently BUL FC.

Allan Katwe has formerly played for Nkumba University, Mutundwe Lions and the Uganda national beach soccer team – The Sand Cranes. He was also the head coach of YMCA in this year’s University League.

Former URA FC forward Peter Lwasa remains the other Ugandan player at the 2009 KPL Champions.

Sofapaka sit eighth on the Kenya Premier League table with 21 points accumulated from 13 games. They are seven points behind leaders Gor Mahia.
