Umar Kasumba was on Wednesday morning voted as the SportPesa/ SJAK Player of the month for February in Nairobi.
He beat Allan Wanga of Kakamega Homeboyz and Bandari’s Wycliffe Ochomo to the award voted by the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK).
The former SC Villa and Police marksman has so far scored seven league goals, two behind Wanga but netted four times in the month under review.
He scored a brace against Mathare United, a goal a piece against Kariobangi Sharks and Kakamega Homeboyz as the Batoto Ba Mungu ascended to the summit of the Kenya Premier League.
” I am very happy about this award. It’s a big challenge for me. Such an achievement is something that makes me want to work very hard as the season progresses.”
Kasumba said while receiving the accolade.
The in-form striker hopes to get a consideration on the Uganda national team, the Cranes.
” I am available to represent the Uganda Cranes if I get the opportunity. I am not the one to compare myself with other strikers.”
Kasumba who also walked away with a KSh100,000 cheque and a 49-inch LG television, hailed his coach John Baraza for his progress as a striker and affirmed his season target.
” I have the best coach in the league. My coach was top scorer four times in his hey days and that is something that helps and motivates me everyday to achieve the 20 goal target I have set for myself.”
Sofapaka lead the 18-team table of the KPL with 33 points accumulated from 18 games despite playing three games more than second placed Gor Mahia who have 32 points.
