Juliet Nalukenge completes move to Europe

Crested Cranes striker Juliet Nalukenge will play for Apollon Ladies in Cyprus.

Nalukenge who turns 18 today put pen to paper on a two year contract with Cyprus’ most successful club.

She has been playing for Kawempe Muslim where she has won a number of titles both with the club and school team.

Nalukenge was the national U17 team captain as Uganda won the COSAFA U-17 championship in Mauritius in 2019. She emerged as the tournament’s top scorer with 18 goals.

Her brilliant performances elevated her to the podium as she claimed the Most Valuable Female Player award in the 2019 FUFA Awards.

Nalukenge was one of the three joint leading scorers (with five goals) in the U-17 FIFA World Cup qualifiers which were later cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Her most notable achievement internationally is the NxGn award where she was named among the best 10 female wonderkids in the world early this year. She was ninth on the 10-player list and the only one from Africa.

Apollon Ladies FC have won 10 Cypriot First Division titles, 10 Cypriot Cups and 7 Cypriot Super Cups.

They will play against Belarusian side Dinamo-GBU FK in the preliminary round in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Other Ugandan female players who are playing in Europe are; Sandra Nabweteme (Fimleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar in Iceland), (FH Women Football Club) Vanessa Edith Karungi and Natasha Shirazi (Both at Boldklubben af 1893 in Denmark), Viola Nambi Ssebunya (Vaxjo in Sweden) and Ritah Kivumbi (Mallbackens IF also in Sweden)
