Jonathan Pitroipa calls time on international career

Burkina Faso forward Beninwende Yann Jonathan Pitroipa has officially retired from international football.

Pitroipa ends his 13 playing career for the Stallions with 75 Caps and 19 goals. He made his Burkina Faso debut in 2006 and has featured at the 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2017 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations editions.

During the 2013 edition, he helped his side finish as runners up in South Africa and was named player of the tournament. He netted two goals at the event.

The winger was also a key pillar for his side as they finished third at the continental showpiece staged in Gabon in 2017.

On his decision to retire, Pitroipa wrote on his Facebook page

“It was a very difficult decision for me to make, but it’s time for me to write another page of my life.”

“The years have spent with the national team have been incredible. I would like to thank my teammates, supporters, people involved bear and far without forgetting my loved ones, my family who made this adventure so special.”

I am proud to have put on the jersey and have contributed to writing the most beautiful pages in the history of my Nation.”

He stated.

This year the winger made five international appearances including two Burkina Faso’s opening games in the 2021 AFCON qualifying campaign as they played to a goalless draw with Uganda Cranes before a 2-1 win away to South Sudan.

The former Freiburg, Hamburg, Rennes, Al Jazira Club, Al Nasr, Antwerp winger will now concentrate on his French side Paris FC.
