Jinja SSS Cricket Oval to be upgraded to turf wicket

Jinja district has produced some of the best talent in Ugandan Cricket for a long time with most of them learning their trade at Jinja SSS oval.

However, the playing surface has been an astro turf and needed to be upgraded to an internationally approved turf wicket.

In 2019, Jinja SSS and UCA signed an MOU that allowed the latter to develop the ground in three phases that include upgrading the playing turf, construction of a perimeter fence around the ground and putting up dressing rooms.

That process got in motion on Monday 29th with a ground breaking ceremony at the ground. Phase one of the project is going to entail construction of a turf wicket on the ground, and the project will be overseen by UCA trustee Mr Ranmal Keshwalla with Smart Bills incharge of the civil works.

The project is expected to take two months and will cost approximately 45M. The funds to upgrade the playing surface are internally generated from UCA.

At the ground breaking ceremony, Jinja SSS was represented by the Deputy Headmaster Mr William Ongom while Mr Keshwalla and Mr Steven Lumonya represented UCA Trustees with UCA Chairman Bashir Ansasira representing the board, and the CEO Martin Ondeko, Operations Manager John Trust Mayeku, Eastern Region Development Officer Baker Elonge and Interim Cricket Cranes Coach Davis Turinawe representing the secretariat.
