Hugo Broos names Bafana Bafana squad to face Uganda Cranes

Brighton and Hove Albion's Percy Tau and Keegan Dolly of Montpelier are the only foreign based players in the squad.

South Africa’s new head coach Hugo Broos has named Bafana Bafana’s squad that will face Uganda Cranes in a friendly game early next month.

The squad consists of 19 players and notably excludes Itumeleng Khune, Bradley Grobler, Themba Zwane and Luther Singh among others.

Brighton and Hove Albion’s Percy Tau and Keegan Dolly of Montpelier are the only foreign based players in the squad.

The Bafana Bafana will host Uganda Cranes on June 10th at the Orlando Stadium in preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September.

Broos was appointed South Africa’s new head coach early this month replacing Molefi Ntseki.

However, Broos is set to miss the game since he is expected to be in Belgium receiving his COVID-19 vaccination.

His immediate deputy Cedomir Janevski is expected to be in the dug out alongside the newly appointed local assistant coach Helman Mkhalele.

Just like Uganda, South Africa failed to qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Cameroon.

The encounter will be Uganda’s first match since the retirement of captain Dennis Onyango and the sacking of coach Johnathan McKinstry.

Uganda is also expected to name the squad for the friendly match in the coming days.
