How Ugandan Players fared over the weekend

A number of Ugandan players were involved in respective league games across the world over the weekend as football leagues resume following a pandemic break.

Notably, Farouk Miya and Isaac Muleme returned to action in Turkey and Slovakia respectively while the Swedish Allensvenskan kicked off after a long wait,

Here is how Ugandan representatives fared over the weekend;

TURKEY

Farouk Miya returned to action as Konyaspor lost 2-1 to Genclerbirligi in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.

Miya replaced Bosnian midfielder Deni Milosevic to mark his 20th appearance of the season.

The Uganda Cranes forward has so far scored 5 goals and registered one assist and a yellow card in the 20 games he has played so far.

After 27 games, Konyaspor are 15th on the 18-team table with 26 points and will host Sivasspor in their next game on Sunday 14th June.

TANZANIA

Nicolas Wadada was not part of the Azam FC team that beat Mbao FC 2-0 in the Tanzanian League at the Azam Complex on Sunday.

The roving right back was not declared match fit having joined the team two days to the game. He has so far registered 7 assists and one goal this season.

With four games played over the weekend, the Tanzanian League became the second African top-flight league on the continent to resume following the long COVID-19 pandemic break.

ESTONIA

Edrisa Lubega ‘Torres’ played 72 minutes before he was replaced by Kristofer Piht who eventually headed home the winning goal as Paide Linnameeskond beat Trans Narva FC 2-1 in the Estonian Premium Liiga on Sunday.

Earlier in the first half, Paide were awarded a penalty after Lubega was fouled in the box which was converted by Siim Luuts in the 27th minute.

Lubega was at fault for missing two clear cut chances early in the second. He has so far scored 3 goals in the 6 league games he has played.

Paide are fourth on the Estonia Premium Liiga table with 12 points from 7 games and will play against Tammeka Tartu on Wednesday 17th June.

SLOVAKIA

Isaac Muleme played full-time as his FC Nitra side lost 2-1 to FC ViOn Zlate Moravce in the Slovakian Fortuna Liga (Superliga) on Saturday.

Muleme featured as a left back for the first time since his loan move from Viktoria Zizkov of Czech Republic. He has played four games, starting thrice and coming off the bench once.

Muleme and teammates are expected to be in action on Saturday 20th June against FK Senica.

SWEDEN

Cranes defender Ronald Ddungu Mukiibi featured as a right back for 90 minutes as Ostersunds FK lost 2-0 to Hammarby IF in the Swedish top-flight league on Sunday.

While Mukiibi played full-time his Ugandan born teammate Isak Ssewankambo was substituted off in the 81st minute.

Ugandan born midfielder Muzafalu Kivumbi played 75 minutes for Assyriska IF in their 1-0 win over Rynninge IK in the Swedish Division 2 on Sunday.

Striker Patrick Mulyanti played full-time and got booked in the 85th minute as his IFK Amal lost 3-0 to Grebbestads IF in the Swedish Division 2 on Sunday.

Viola Nambi came off the bench and featured for 30 minutes as her Vaxjo United lost FC Rosengard in a women friendly game on Sunday.

Her compatriot Rita Kivumbi was not part of the Mallbackens IF team that won 1-0 against Kvarnsvedens Women on Sunday.

DENMARK

Midfielder Robert Kakeeto came off the bench in the 72nd minute as AaB Aalborg lost 2-0 to FC Midtjylland in the Danish Superligaen on Sunday.

Kakeeto replaced Magnus Christensen and was later booked for foul play in the 90th minute.

His compatriot Moses Opondo will be in action on Monday 15th as his OB Odense side visit Silkeborg FC.

ISRAEL

William Kizito Luwagga came off the bench in the 82nd minute as Hapoel Kfar Saba were held to a goalless draw by Hapoel Hadera. He replaced French forward Amadou Soukouna.

Timothy Denis Awany played full-time as Ashdod SC defeated Sekzia Ness Ziona 2-0 on Saturday.

The former KCCA captain has played a total of 25 games for Ashdod SC, scoring one goal, getting two yellow cards and one red card.

Ashdod will face Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv in their next game on Sunday 21st while Luwagga’s Hapoel Kfar Saba will host Ironi Kiryat Shmona a day earlier.

VIETNAM

Joseph Mpande Mbolimbo captained Hai Phong FC in their 5-0 crushing defeat to Becamex Binh Duong on Friday.

Godfrey Baba Kizito played full-time for Than Quang Ninh in their 1-1 draw with Viettel FC on Friday.

Moses Oloya was not part of the Hanoi FC team that drew 1-1 with Hong Linh Ha Tinh on Saturday.

Mpande’s Haiphong FC will face Baba Kizito’s Than Quang Ninh on Wednesday 17th June.

Haiphong sit 8th on the table with 5 points, Than Quang Ninh are 10th with 4 points while Hanoi are 5th with 7 points.
