Halid Lwaliwa is one of the most consistently reliable defenders of thisgeneration and this was proved on 26 July 2017 when he was crowned the the best defender of the 2016/2017 season at the UPL awards that were held at Imperial Hotel a feat he has achieved back to back.
An overjoyed Lwaliwa told Swift Sports website that,
“I am exceedingly delighted that I was crowned the best defender of 2016/17 season. It was hard for me basing on the achievements of the other nominees, but God ,hard work plus my teammates at Vipers helped me to this great achievement.”
His preparations ahead of the new season,
“Personally I am still in rehabilitation due to the injury i sustained while on the national duty and my prayer is to start training thus begin the new season, If it’s not the case then i will give it time so has to return strong.”
He is also upbeat about the new season expectations and faith in the new signings,
” The players that have joined us are of good quality and we have a lot of hope in them coming into a new season that we want to challenge for, It will be a big upset for us if we fail to win the title since we have all it requires to make us champions in the 2017/18 season.”
Lwaliwa helped his side have the best defensive record in the league last season only conceding 18 goals in the league, the fewest of all the 16 teams in the 2016/17 season.
