The Global Goals World Cup East Africa 2020 has officially been launched at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.
This is an amateur women football event that can be played by any women above 18 and is played on a aside basis with each game lasting 6 minutes.
Mariam M.Mpaata the Chief Executive officer (CEO) of Afrika Sports foundation Center and the main host Global Goals World Cup East Africa asserts that major aim of the tourney is to create awareness about sustainable goals.
“This is an event for Ladies who don’t play professional football and will help us create awareness about sustainable developmental goals. We are to use this event to fight poverty, starvation and for peace in our country.”
We are to have over 28 teams from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania and therefore I invite everyone to come and grace the event.” She stated.
At the official launch, FUFA was represented by Decolas Kizza and National Council of Sports by the assistant general secretary David Katende were in attendance.
For starters, Eligible players can come from women groups, corporates, sports organisations or federations and a group of friends. A normal team structure is made up 8 by players.
The tournament is slated for 8th March at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.
Uganda will become only the fifth African country to host the event. Kenya and South Africa hosted it in 2017 and 2018 respectively while Morocco and Nigeria will host the competition this year in different months.
Copenhagen, New York, Bangkok, Dubai, Jordan, Mumbai, Prague, Cannes Lions, Texas, Dominica and Medellin are some of the cities that have hosted the prestigious event.
