FWSL: Uganda Martyrs stage a comeback against Kawempe to win bronze

Uganda Martyrs High School WFC came from a goal down to beat Kawempe Muslim 2-1 in the Women Super League third place play off at Njeru.

Second half substitutes Shamsa Najjuma and Spencer Nakachwa scored the two important goals to ensure Uganda Martyrs finish third.

Kawempe took the lead in the 21st minute through Allen Nassazi who scored her fourth goal of the campaign.

The Lubaga school side fought back through Najjuma who found the equalizer in the 60th minute before Spencer Nakachwa completed the comeback against her former side in the 82nd minute.

The duo had came on for Esther Naluyimba and Immaculate Nakanjako in the 50th minute.

Gloria Namugerwa the Uganda Martyrs captain expressed her delight upon beating Kawempe again,

” We are delighted because we have won from a goal down. We came into this game knowing Kawempe is a good team but we beat them just like we did in the group stages.”

Namugerwa said in the post match interview.

The Uganda Martyrs captain scored the decisive lone goal when both sides met in the group stages.

Kawempe finished 4th which is the worst finish they have managed since the women league inception in 2015.

Uganda Martyrs have finished third for the second time since 2015 with the first one coming in their debut season in 2017 at Wankulukuku.
