FWSL : Kawempe, Lady Doves post successive victories, Kampala Queens stunned

Kawempe Muslim and Lady Doves continued with their perfect start to the Fufa Women Super League with their second successive wins on Saturday while Uganda Martyrs stunned Kampala Queens 2-1 in Lubaga.

Kawempe were 4-0 winners over Muteesa I Royal University at the IUIU Kabojja playground while Lady Doves edged She Corporates 1-0 in Masindi.

Anita Namata, Shamirah Nalugya, Asia Nakibuuka and Juliet Nalukenge were all on target for the Kawempe Muslim team which would have registered a victory of a bigger margin had it not been their wastefulness in the final third.

Nalukenge set up Namata for the first goal, Nalugya made it 2-0 from a penalty kick while Asia Nakibuuka made it 3-0 from another Nalukenge ball moments into the second period.

Substitute Brenda Nakayenga exquisitely set up Nalukenge to score the fourth deep in the second half.

Ayub Khalifa, the Kawempe Muslim coach expressed his discontentment for the wasted chances by his charges on the day.

” It is unfortunate that my players have wasted a lot of chances today otherwise we would have won with a bigger margin than that. I think they are not aware that the league format changed and we shall not have play offs. Otherwise we might reach an extent where the league champions will be decided by goal difference yet we squandered very many scoring opportunities.” He said.

Ayub also lauded youngster Shakira Nyinagahirwa for her outstanding exploits through out the game.

” Obviously my best performing player on the day has been Nyinagahirwa because she fulfilled her duties perfectly and played to the instructions. ”

Nyinagahirwa, 14, was an integral figure in the Ayub’s midfield and won possession on countless times but also initiated a host of team’s attacks.

She however went off limping at full-time following a harsh challenge by one of her opponents.

Elsewhere at the Katusabe grounds in Masindi, Fazila Ikwaput was once again the reason for Lady Doves to celebrate after scoring the all important winning goal against She Corporates.

Ikwaput was on target in the final 12 minutes of the game and subsequently took her tally to four goals in two games having bagged a hat trick in the opener against Muteesa.

The newly appointed Crested Cranes deputy captain now leads the scorers’ chat with a goal more than Fauzia Najjemba of Kampala Queens and Kawempe’s Nalukenge who have managed three in two games.

The She Corporates have lost their first two games with an identical score and in a similar manner of conceding late.

Uganda Martyrs HS were 2-1 winners over Kampala Queens who were playing in absence of their head coach Farida Bulega currently in charge of the Crested Cranes residential camp in Njeru.

Brenda Munyana and Latifa Nakasi scored for Uganda Martyrs while Najjemba was on target for the losing side from a penalty conversion, her third this season.

Kawempe Muslim lead the eight-team table with six points same as the second placed Lady Doves but with a superior goal difference.

UCU Lady Cardinals and Olila High School weren’t in action since the latter are yet to get clearance to host from their proposed home ground.
