It’s now confirmed that the FUFA Women Elite League will for the first time have a new champion.
This comes after UCU Lady Cardinals defeated the four time champions Kawempe Muslim 4-2 in the first semi final of this year’s playoffs.
Maureen Kinavudori, Cissy Nakate, Hasifa Nassuna and Rehema Adubango’s own goal ensured UCU Lady Cardinals edge Ayub Khalifa’s charges for the first.
Kinavudori put the University side in the early lead finishing off a Nassuna wonderful spadework in the second minute of the game.
Seven minutes later, Cissy Nakate made it 2-0 capitalizing on a lose ball from a corner kick.
At 2-0, it was imminent that Kawempe were always going to concede another one very soon because of the relentless attacks from Nassuna and her partners in crime.
At the half hour mark, the vulnerable Kawempe defense succumbed to UCU's pressure. Adubango connected the ball into her own net.
Anita Namata pulled one back for the Kawempe warriors heading home from Grace Aluka exquisitely crossed ball.
Nassuna exhausted Kawempe's hopes of a comeback with a free kick that was not well kept by Juliet Adeke the Kawempe goalkeeper a minute to the half time break.
The second half saw Kawempe pushing for a comeback but in vain.
Sharon Naddunga, Samalie Nakachwa, Stella Musubika and Brenda Nakayenga were all brought on at different intervals.
Nakayenga pulled one back from a goal mouth melee five to normal time.
The full-time whistle saw Kawempe miss out on the final for the first time since the league inception.
