Asubo Gafford Ladies faltered again in their pursuit for promotion from the FUFA Women Elite League as they drew 1-1 with Dynamic SS Jjeza in their second game of the campaign.

By far the most experienced team in the Women’s second tier, Asubo Gafford Ladies have only managed a point from two games and sit bottom of the Group A table.

After losing their opener to King of Kings, the Gafford Ladies were expected to bounce back with nothing but victory against Dynamic SS Jjeza.

They had the game in their control from the onset and created the best goal scoring chances of the day but failed to put them away. Captain Shakira Mutibwa went clear on goal at the stroke of half-time but failed to beat goalkeeper Scovia Kabiri.

They broke the deadlock five minutes into the second half through defender Claire Namatovu who tapped home from close range following a melee in the goal mouth.

Striker Janat Apolot was the biggest culprit of squandering the lion’s share of chances before she was replaced by Madina Nakayi in the closing stages.

Dynamic SS Jjeza equalized through Aisha Namakaaya who struck a beauty of a free kick in the first minute of the added time to salvage a point.

The second game of the day saw King of Kings qualify for the quarter finals after beating Luweero Giants Queens 2-0 thanks to a brace by youngster Sharon Kanyiginya.

King of Kings have garnered six points in two games and top the group while Luweero Giants Queens come second with three points.

The games will resume on Tuesday after a rest day on Monday.

Asubo Gafford Ladies will have to win their final game against Luweero Giants Queens if they are to save themselves from an early exit.

King of Kings and Dynamic SS Jjeza will face off in the other game.

The top two teams in each of the four groups will automatically qualify for the quarter finals while the two eventual finalists will book places in the FUFA Women Super League.
