FUFA Drum: Buganda start title defense against Lango

The katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga will be the chief guest as holders Buganda province host Lango province in the opening match of the second edition of the FUFA Drum tournament at Mukono Bishops grounds.

The hosts will look upon last year’s MVP Vianne Ssekajugo who scored the two vital goals as Buganda defeated West Nile 2-1 on aggregate.

Juma Balinya (the leading scorer of the StarTimes Uganda Premier league with 16 goals), Bashir Mutanda, Shafik Kagimu and Robert Sentongo are greatly expected to lift Alex Isabirye’s charges.

KCCA’s Allan Okello and Timothy Awany, Joackim Ojera ( URA FC) and Dickens Okwir will be the men to watch as David Obua’s side faces the inaugural winners

Isabirye believes his boys are ready for this tie despite his key players and comes in this encounter expecting maximum points,

” It is unfortunate that we are missing out some of the key players who were so vital in last year’s success, Allan Mugalu and Dickson Kigongo are out due to injuries and Nicholas Sebwato is having issues of now but I believe we have better replacements.”

” Right now we are not thinking about winning the tournament again but playing every game so well and I believe this will help us achieve our desired goals.”

It will be Joel Mutakubwa or Hannington Ssebwalunyo to start in goal.

It should remembered Buganda lost to Lango last year 3-1 at the same ground.

The game is to be handled by Ronald Madanda as the center referee assisted by Ronald Mwesigwa and Ahmed Kakembo as the 1st and second assistants respectively.
