James Alitho converted a penalty in the 57th minute to give his side Bugisu Province a 1-0 win over their close rivals Busoga in Mbale. The slim defeat is Busoga’s first ever in the tournament.
James Alitho who was named man of the match after the final whistle, continues to lead scorers’ chats with 8 goals in the 5 matches played.
Charles Ayiekoh the Busoga Province coach conceded defeat but remained hopeful of a knock out berth
” We are going back and revise our mistakes so that we can face our next opponent and get the desired result.”
” It was a genuine penalty but at one point the referee seemed unfair on our side as our opponents wasted a lot of time due to the pressure mounted on them. They even reached an extent of hiding match balls.” he added.
Elsewhere, Viane Sekajugo’s first half strike in the 42nd minute gave Buganda Province a 1-0 win against Kigezi Province in Kabale. The 1-0 win for Alex Isabirye coached side gave them a lifeline as far as their qualification to the next round is concerned.
Express FC’s David Ndihabwe of Kigezi Province was named the man of the match in the same game.
Teso Province out muscled their Sebei counterparts in a 6-goal thriller.
Musa Esenu scored a brace whereas Simon Okwi and Michael Sui scored the other for Teso Province. Eric Chebet and Kendrin Arapkweit scored for Sebei Province.
Norman Ojik and Dickens Okwir scored for Acholi and Lango respectively as their sides played to a 1-1 stalemate at Pecce Stadium in Gulu.
Hudu Mulikyi of Acholi Province emerged man of the match.
