Kawempe Muslim S.S needed a penalty shoot out to overcome a resilient St. Noa Zzana side in the girls football final in the 2019 Fresh Dairy Games.
Following a goalless draw in normal time, it was left for penalties to determine who wins the championship and Kawempe’s reliable goalkeeper Juliet Adeke ensured that the record champions win their first title since 2016.
Adeke saved Mastula Nakku’s penalty before Kawempe’s skipper Mariam Nakabugo made it 5-4 after burying home the winner.
This was Kawempe’s ninth championship in the annually held secondary school games since 2009.
Overall, St. Noa Zzana’s Resty Kobusobozi was named Most Valuable Player (M.V.P) of the tournament while Mukono High’s Fauzia Najjemba went away unrecognized despite emerging top scorer with 13 goals.
Mukono High edged Bishops SS Mukono 4-3 on penalties in the third place play off game following a 1-1 draw at full-time.
Kawempe Muslim, St. Noa Zzana and Mukono High School will represent Uganda in the East African Secondary School games later this year in Arusha, Tanzania.
Elsewhere in other sporting disciplines, Kibuli Secondary School extended their dominance in Lawn Tennis winning both the Boys and Girls category.
St. Mary’s College Kisubi won the Rugby 15’s, Buddo S.S and St. Mary’s Kitende won the Basketball titles in the Boys and Girls categories respectively.
