Fortebet Real Stars Awards July nominees revealed

The organisers of the Fortebet Real Stars Sports Awards have revealed the nominees for the outstanding performers for the month of July.

In athletics, Uganda’s sensational long distance duo of Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo alongside 800m Olympic semifinalist Winnie Nanyondo will battle for the July gong.

Uganda’s global champion Cheptegei won silver in the 10000m race at the ongoing 2020 Tokyo Olympic games.

His compatriot Kiplimo and 2020 half marathon world champion scooped bronze in the epic 10000m Olympic final.

Cheptegei and Kiplimo ended Uganda’s nine year wait for an Olympic medal.

Nanyondo came close to securing a place in the 800m global games final despite a spirited performance on Saturday.

Silverbacks trio of Arthur Kaluma, Eric Rwahire and Ishmail Wainwright will battle for the Basketball accolade.

Kaluma scored 20 points as the Silverbacks team prevailed to the Afrobasket showpiece last month.

In Rugby, Adrian Kasiito who was outstanding for Uganda in their victory against Ghana in the Rugby Africa Cup at Kyadondo will face off with two Lady Cranes players Faith Namugga and skipper Peace Lekuru.

The crew of Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba are unopposed for the best Rally Driver of the month. The crew represented Uganda at the World Rally Championship in July.

Winners will officially be crowned virtually on Monday, 2nd August.
