Fortebet Real Stars Awards :Cheptegei among nominees for best of February

The Fortebet Real Stars monthly Sports awards nominees for the month of February have been revealed.

This time three outstanding personnel from three sports disciplines will be rewarded for their astonishing performances in February.

In Football category, Uganda Hippos duo of custodian Jack Komakech and Steven Sserwadda will battle with Express FC forward George Ssenkaba.

Komakech has been instrumental for the Hippos side during the ongoing AFCON U20 Championship in Mauritania. He has only conceded twice and kept two clean sheets at the competition.

His penalty save against Burkina Faso helped the young beleaguered troops advance to the semifinal at their debut continental showpiece.

Sserwadda has also had a great tournament, scoring two goals at the championship including a spectacular against Mauritania.

Ssenkaba has been productive for Express FC during the month of February scoring five goals.

Football nominees

Hosea Kiplangat, Joshua Cheptegei and teenager Peruth Chemutai will battle for the Athletics accolade.

Kiplangat managed to win the National Cross country championship in a time of 2:14:0 ahead of Kusuro Geoffrey who was second with 29:15:1 and third placed Chibet Samuel.

Peruth was a comfortable winner of the senior women’s National cross Country race. The 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games silver medalist finished at 33:35:1 beating Chemutai Doreen who came second 33:43:4 and Chesang Doreen with 33:44:4.

Peruth is steeplechase runner who has also represented Uganda in various championships.

Ugandan icon Cheptegei is the other contender having successfully defended his 5Km Monaco Run title. He clocked 13minutes, 11seconds.

In Badminton, Brian Kasirye, Shanika Fadilah and Husina Kobugabe will battle for the February gong.

Kasirye and Kobugabe won gold in the mixed doubles at the just concluded Uganda International badminton tournament.

Kobugabe also won a gold medal in the women doubles where she paired with Mable Namakoye.
