Fortebet Real Stars awards August winners revealed

The organisers of the Fortebet Real Stars monthly awards have awarded the winners of the month of August at the ceremony held at Route256 in Lugogo.

The winners were Joshua Cheptegei (Athletics, Muzamir Mutyaba (Football), Ishmail Wainwright(Basketball) and Peruth Chemutai who scooped the lifetime achievement award.

Cheptegei won the 5000m race Olympic gold in Tokyo to beat Chemutai and David Emong (winner of bronze medal at the Paralympics) to the best athlete of the August.

Mutyaba overcame his Express FC teammates Joel Mutakubwa and Martin Kizza to clinch the footballer of the month of August accolade.

The midfielder was a key pillar during Express FC CECAFA Kagame Cup trophy in Tanzania last month.

In Basketball, Wainwright beat his Silverbacks teammates Deng Geu and Adam Seiko to the award.

Wainwright who now features for NBA giants Toronto Raptors put up an astonishing performance as the Silverbacks reached the quarterfinals of the 2021 Afrobasket tournament that was staged in Rwanda.

Chemutai who became the first ever woman to win an Olympic medal following her superb performance in the 3000m steeplechase race in Tokyo scooped the lifetime achievement award.

Mercylin Chelangat receives Chemutai’s award from Isaac Mukasa

Uganda Athletics Federation President Dominic Otuchet and athlete Mercylin Chelangat represented Cheptegei and Chemutai respectively.

Head of communications at Express FC Peter Tabu represented Muzamir Mutyaba at the awarding ceremony.
