Uganda Premier League newbies UPDF FC have completed the signing of roving right back Fred Okot on a one year deal.

Okot was a free agent after his employment contract with Vipers officially came to an end at the climax of the previous campaign.

Okot who is also a young sibling of Uganda Cranes left back Joseph Ochaya, has had his promising career hampered by injuries in the recent past.

His move to UPDF was inspired by pursuit of playing time shortly after his transfer to Express failed through in the eleventh hour.

Okot adds Premier League experience in the UPDF squad having sprung to the scene with the now-defunct Lweza FC in the 2015-16 season and played two seasons at URA FC before switching to Vipers in 2018.

He also played for Kireka United in the FUFA Big League, Lisah Standard, Mehtah Lugazi and St. Mary’s Kitende in the National Post Primaries.

Okot was part of Matia Lule’s Hippos squad that represented Uganda in the 2018 U-20 COSAFA Championship held in Zambia.

He joins a list of new players at the Army side which notably includes Ronnie Kisekka, Gadaffi Gadinho, Juma Ssebaduka, Simon Mbaziira, Dickens Okwir and Brian Kayanja.

Others are goalkeepers Yusuf Wasswa and Tony Kyamera, Sam Kintu Tiyo, Isa Mubiru, Jesse Kajuba, Charles Ssebutinde, Ibrahim Wammanah and James Begesa.

UPDF FC earned direct promotion to the top-flight after topping the Rwenzori Group when the Big league was abruptly called off due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

They will be coached by Kefa Kisala who replaced Steven Bogere. Kisala will have Pius Ngabo as his immediate deputy.
