Former FUFA boss passes on

Former Federation of Uganda Football Associations Hajji Twaha Nasser Kakaire has passed on.

Kakaire, 76 died on Thursday afternoon in Jinja. He served as FUFA President from 1995 to 1998.

“We have just learnt of the unfortunate news of the passing on of Hajji Twaha Kakaire, the 24th FUFA President. Hajji played key role in the development, growth of football and the Institution during his leadership. We grieve in honour of his football works.”

FUFA confirmed the development in a brief statement.

Burial arrangements are expected be communicated by the Federation.

Kakaire was the first FUFA boss to bring on board, the first sponsorship in the history of the national league when he convinced Nile Breweries to bankroll the topflight league in 1997.

He was replaced by the late Denis Obua in 1998 FUFA polls. Obua defeated Kakaire with 67 votes to the latter’s 61.

Veteran journalist Hassan Badru Zziwa described Kakaire has a man who laid a foundation that resulted into the financial empowerment of the national Federation.

In May this year, Kakaire was rewarded by the organisers of the Fortebet Real Stars Awards with the Legendary Award that recognises outstanding sports achievements from the past.
