Former Chelsea striker Kalou joins Luyima’s Arta Solar7 in Djibouti

Former Ivory Coast national team striker Salomon Kalou has officially joined Djibouti giants Arta Solar7 FC on a short term contract.

Kalou has been a free agent having left Brazilian side Botafogo FC in 2021 when his contract expired.

He will be teammates with Ugandan goalkeeper Sulait Luyima who has previously played for SC Villa, URA FC and Bright Stars.

Arta Solar7 is also home to former Arsenal and Barcelona Cameroonian midfielder Alexandre Song who is the club captain.

Other high profile names playing for Arta Solar7 are goalkeeper Idris Carlos Kameni, Burkina Faso’s Alain Traore and Cameroonian veteran defender Dany Nounkeu.

Arta Solar7 are back to back Djibouti league champions and won a double in the recently concluded season.

The club will be playing in the CAF Champions League having lost to Tusker FC in the preliminary round last season.

Kalou notably played for Chelsea between 2006-12 and featured in 254 games scoring 60 goals across all competitions.

He also played for Feyenoord and Excelsior in Netherlands, Lille in France, Hertha Berlin in Germany and most recently Botafogo in Brazil.

Kalou played for the Ivory Coast national team from 2007 to 2017 and won the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

Arta Solar7 was founded in 2017 and is currently owned by the country’s first son.
