Club football resumed over the weekend and a number of Ugandan football players were in action for their respective clubs across the globe.

Dennis Masinde Onyango was the player of the weekend after his scintillating performances inspired Mamelodi Sundowns to a MTN 8 Cup on Saturday night.

Bevis Mugabi was on the score sheet against Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers in Scotland but unfortunately lost 6-1.

Ben Ocen, Nicholas Sebwato, Robert Mukoghotya made their debuts while Deogracious Ojok, Rashid Kyambadde, William Wadri and Uganda Hippos starlet Nathan Odokonyero who scored a hat trick, were all on the score sheet.

Striker Fahad Bayo came off the bench and got sent off late in the second half as Ashdod FC held Maccabi Haifa to a 2-2 draw on Saturday.

Bayo replaced Zakaria Mugeese at the hour mark before he was shown straight red for a foul on defender Sean Goldberg inside the added five minutes.

His compatriot Timothy Awany played full-time for Ashdod.

William Kizito Luwagga played 83 minutes before he was replaced by Ben Cohen as his side Hapoel Nof HaGalil lost 4-0 to Maccabi Petach Tikva.

Crested Cranes forward Natasha Shirazi was part of the Maccabi Kishronot Hadera ladies team that drew 2-2 with Maccabi Emek Hefer in the Israeli Women’s League.

DR Congo

Left back Joseph Ochaya played 71 minutes before he was replaced by forward Phillipe Kinzumbi as TP Mazembe beat Simba FC 2-0 in the Congolese League.

South Africa

Dennis Onyango saved five penalty shoot outs as Mamelodi Sundowns beat Cape Town City 2-1 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at full-time in the MTN 8 final on Saturday night.

He saved kicks from Ahanyisa Eric Mayo, Fagrie Lakay, Abdul Ajagun, Taariq Fielies and Thamsanqa Mkhize and subsequently guided the Masandawana to their first trophy of the season.

Onyango was also named the man of the match for the final following his heroics.

Still in South Africa, goalkeeper Jamal Salim Magoola returned to action from injury as his side Pretoria Callies beat Tsha Tsha Madzivhandila 2-1 in the second tier.

Zambia

Buildcon FC and Red Arrows drew 0-0. Keziron Kizito played for Buildcon while goalkeeper Yasin Mugabi was not part of the match day squad for Red Arrows.

Former Soltilo Bright Stars left back Ronald Nkonge was not part of the Nkana FC team that won 1-0 against Kafue Celtic.

Shafiq Batambuze and midfielder Hashim Sempala featured for Kabwe Warriors who drew 1-1 against Forest Rangers.

Kenya

William Wadri continued with his scoring form as Bandari beat Talanta FC 3-0 on Sunday. Wadri scored one goal, in the 83rd minute and took his tally to three goals this season.

His teammate Umar Kasumba played 69 minutes before he was replaced by Chris Ochieng while defender Roger Aloro remained on the bench.

Defender Ziyadi Kiwanuka didn’t play for Talanta FC.

Former BUL Striker Deogracious Ojok came off the bench in the 69th minute to score his first goal for Tusker in the league. Ojok replaced Tanzanian Ibrahim Joshua before scoring in the 90th minute as Tusker beat Wazito 2-0.

Peter Lwasa played 60 minutes before he was replaced by Boniface Omondi as Gor Mahia beat Sofapaka 1-0.

Left back Fred Nkata Jr was an unused substitute for Gor Mahia.

Striker Rashid Kyambadde scored for Vihiga Bullets as they lost 3-2 to Kakamega HomeBoyz.

Kyambadde, a former Masavu striker, scored in the 37th minute before he was withdrawn for Vincent Ogola in the 84th.

Former UPDF forward Jesse Kajuba also played for Vihiga Bullets.

Algeria

Allan Okello was in action for Paradou AC who won 4-2 against MC Oran in the second round game of the Algerian Ligue 1.

Czech Republic

Isaac Muleme played 81 minutes as Viktoria Zizkov drew 0-0 with Vysocina Jihlava. Muleme was replaced by Farid Nabiyev.

Romania

Striker Mahad Kayondo played 45 minutes before he got off with a muscle injury as his CSM Deva drew 0-0 with Vointa Lupac in the Romanian third tier.

Serbia

Pius Obuya played 89 minutes for FK Kabel Novi Sad before his place was taken by Nikolaos Antoniadis. They however lost 2-1 to FK Javor Ivanjica.

Scotland

Bevis Mugabi scored Motherwell’s goal against Rangers

Bevis Mugabi scored the opening goal for the encounter between Motherwell and champions Rangers on Sunday.

The lanky center back was on target in the 13th minute but Rangers fought back and won it 6-1.

Mugabi was booked for a foul in the 76th minute as Zambian forward Fashion Sakala grabbed a hat trick for the Steven Gerrard coached team.

Egypt

Allan Kyambadde was not part of El Gouna’s team that lost 2-0 to Misr El Makasa. Kyambadde is recovering from injury.

Likewise, winger Abdul Lumala was not part of the Pyramids team that won 2-1 against newly promoted side Pharco FC.

Sweden

Both Ronald Mukiibi and Isaak Sewankambo didn’t play for Ostersunds FK who lost 3-0 to Varnbergs BoIS in the Swedish topflight.

Alexis Bbakka didn’t play for Umea FC in their 1-0 defeat to Hammarby Talang FF.

Ritah Kivumbi and Viola Nambi (both injured) didn’t play for Mallbackens IF and Vaxjo DFF respectively.

Denmark

Ronald Kakeeto played full-time for Skive IK but lost 2-0 against Hillerod in the third tier.

Goalkeeper Vanessa Karungi (injury) was not part of the B93 Copenhagen Women team that drew goal-less with ASA Fodbold in the women’s second division.

Germany

Herbert Bockhorn didn’t play for Vfl Bochum who lost 2-1 to Borussia Monchengladbach on Sunday night.

USA/Canada

Mustafa Kizza played 74 minutes and was replaced by Rudy Camacho as CF Montreal beat FC Forge 7-6 on penalties after a goalless draw in the semi final of the Canadian Championship on Friday.

Kizza subsequently missed out on Montreal’s trip to New York Red Bulls in the Major League Soccer on Sunday.

Mike Azira came off the bench in the 71st minute as his side New Mexico United won 3-1 against Real Monarchs SLC. Azira replaced Juan Guzman.

Steven Sserwadda played full-time as New York Red Bulls II won 4-1 against Loudoun United in the USL Championship. This was the final game of the season for Sserwadda and teammates.

Striker Edward Kizza played for New England Revolution II and lost 1-0 to Toronto FC II in the USL League One.

Yudaya Nakayanze scored a penalty and provided an assist as Lindsey Wilson College won 3-1 against Campbellville. Tracy Jones Akiror also played for Lindsey Wilson who finished as the joint regular season champions.

Portugal

Edrisa Lubega wasn’t part of the Estrela da Amadora team that drew 0-0 with FC Porto B in the Portuguese Segunda Liga.

Alex Kakuba played full-time for Louletano DC as they won 6-0 against FC Serpa.

Spain

Both David Owori and Victor Matovu (injury) didn’t play for CF Velez and Real Oviedo B in the Spanish fourth tier.

England

Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru was brought off injured in the 41st minute as Middlesbrough lost 2-0 to Birmingham City. He was replaced by Duncan Watmore.

Left back Jordan Obita came off the bench to replace Adebayo Akinfenwa in the 58th minute as Wycombe Wanderers drew 3-3 with Fleetwood.

U20 starlet Nathan Odokonyero scored a hat trick for Bognor Regis Town as they won 5-0 against Waltham Abbey in the FA Trophy.

Odokonyero used 13 minutes (20′, 27′ and 33′) to score a hat trick in the first half.

Tanzania

Taddeo Lwanga wasn’t part of the Simba SC team that drew 0-0 with Coastal Union. Former Express defender Joseph Zziwa didn’t feature for Coastal Union as well.

Khalid Aucho played for Young Africans in their 2-0 win over Azam FC on Saturday. Goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya was in goal for Azam while Nicholas Wadada wasn’t part of the squad.

Jackson Kibirige was on the bench as Kagera Sugar won 1-0 against KMC.

Goalkeeper Cleo James Ssetuba was in goal as Biashara United drew 1-1 with Mbeya Kwanza. Forward Ambrose Awio was on the bench while Matthew Odong Tayo wasn’t part of the squad.

Rwanda

Ben Ocen made his debut for Musanze FC against Samuel Kato’s Bugesera. While Musanze won 3-1, Ocen was unfortunate not to score as his effort came off the post and deflected into the net by the goalkeeper.

Emma Okwi and Muzamir Mutyaba were not part of the Kiyovu SC team that won 1-0 against Gorilla FC.

Goalkeeper Nicholas Sebwato and Robert Mukoghotya made their debuts for Mukura Victory Sports but lost 1-0 to Rayon Sports.

Djibouti

Goalkeeper Sulait Luyima was not part of the squad as Arta Solar7 beat CF GR Siaf 1-0. Luyima’s first team place was occupied by Cameroon legendary goalkeeper Carlos Kameni.

Botswana

Lawrence Ndugga was not part of the Orapa United team that won 4-1 against Notwane FC.
