Striker Fahad Bayo Aziz came off the bench and scored a late equalizer as Ashdod FC drew 1-1 with Hapoel Hadera in the Israeli Premier League encounter played on Monday night.

Bayo replaced Stav Torial at the start of the second and eventually scored the equalizer off a well laid ball from Oz Bilu in the 85th minute minute.

The former Vipers marksman had a glorious opportunity to make it 2-1 but his ball from close range was judged not to have crossed the line in the second minute of the added seven.

Hapoel Hadera had taken the lead in the 13th minute through Liran Rotman but were reduced to 10 men after Diaa Lababidi was sent off in the 41st minute.

Ashdod were also reduced to 10 men in the closing two minutes of the game as Shlomy Yosef Azulay intentionally got a second booking to skip the club’s next game against Hapoel Haifa on Saturday.

It was second game in a row Ashdod were playing without Ugandan Timothy Awany who got injured early last week.

The draw seals a playoff place for Ashdod who are currently third with 39 points from 24 games.

Fahad Bayo’s goal took his season tally to five goals, one behind Kizito William Luwagga who features for Hapoel Kfar Saba.

Bayo, Awany and Luwagga are part of the 31-man Uganda Cranes squad that will face Burkina Faso and Malawi in the final two qualifiers of the 2021 AFCON edition.
