Express labour to beat 10 man Paidha Black Angels

George Ssemwogerere will have substitutes Tonny Odur and Michael Birungi to thank for his first ever victory in front of the home fans of Express FC.

Surprisingly, the Express FC tactician started his most in form attacker on the bench, opting to start Mubarak Nsubuga on the left side of a three man attack spear headed by Brian Umony.

The young midfielder put up a decent show but he lacked the directness and swift movement that Birungi always guarantee.

Paidha Black Angels played like a team under not any pressure and this approach helped them frustrate Express FC with only Frank Tumwesigye providing flashes of brilliance in midfield.

The first 45 minutes elapsed with nothing to write home about and teams were sent into the break at 0-0.

Paidha however will have Jackson Nsubuga and Yusuf Ssozi to blame for their failure to capitalise on Isaac Mutanga’s lapses in concentration. A series of opportunities fell on their feet but they could not make them count.

The turning point of the game happened in the 55th minute when Pascal Irasa fouled Frank Tumwesigye, an act that got him into the referee’s books for the second time on the evening and ultimately earned him matching orders from Emmanuel Kiweewa.

Despite their numerical advantage, Express continued to struggle for rhythm until the introduction of hotshot Michael Birungi and later on Tony Odur for Mubarak Nsubuga and Brian Umony.

Moments later, the visitors succumbed to pressure when Disan Galiwango won a penalty which Tony Odur flawlessly converted in the 68th minute.

Express’ lead wasn’t enough to break Paidha’s spine and they continued to attack for an equaliser.

Their resilience was however broken by Birungi’s brilliance when he collected a low pass from Frank Tumwesigye which he ruthlessly poweree towards Orom Benson and ended into the top corner to seal all three points for Express FC.

The earned points send Express to 9th on 32 points , dislodging Police FC on goal difference.

Paidha Black Angels’ defeat culminate more misery for them as they edge closer to relegation keeping them on the bottom of the log.

Express FC will host perennial nemesis SC Villa on 11th of April , whereas Paidha takes on KCCA FC at the the Bar Okoro stadium in Zombo on April 9th.
