Express and Kirinya Jinja SS shared spoils in a goalless draw at Wankulukuku stadium intensifying the goal drought that hovers around the Azam Uganda Premier league with 7 games played.

Express, who were under interim tutelage of Sam Kawalya, named a much changed eleven with only Luswata and Ssebaduka Juma the only old faces while Kirinya JSS midfielders Isaac Ntege and Ibrahim Kayiwa were facing their former paymasters.

Defender Ronnie Kisekka was named in the right back in the absence of skipper Sam Senkoomi, Michael Birungi and Kasule Abdul Kareem flanked the midfield on the right and left respectively, Bengo was given the number 10 role behind lonely striker Daniel Muzeyi Serunkuma.

The 6-time champions earned the point in adversity after spending most time on the receiving end. Kirinya JSS kept on pushing for one moment that can make a difference but fell short to make a bold move forcing Godwin Buule in the Express goal to pull up a couple of saves.

Charles Ayiekoh’s men had the most notable goal scoring efforts coming from Musa Esenu, Godfrey Akol, Isaac Ntege and Muledhu Faizal but could not make a cut past the Express goalkeeper.

Kirinya JSS’ hard tackling midfielder Godfrey Akol received the only yellow card in game following accumulation of fouls when he harshly tackled Ronnie Kisekka in the 45th minute. However, the visitors had two penalty calls not going their way, Express centre back pair of Omar Hitimana and Bernard Agele being the lucky culprits.

Kirinya JSS coach Charles Ayiekoh Lukula expressed his disappointment after the game. He said,

” I am very disappointed about the result because we were pushing from left and right but getting a point against a team like Express is not a bad thing. Express remains a giant even though they didn’t play very well. I am going to work on the goal scoring especially the calmness in the box.”

On Saturday 16th September, Express will make a long trip to Mbarara to take on Mbarara City at Kakyeka stadium while Kirinya Jinja SS will welcome table leaders URA at Bugembe stadium.
