Express FC and KCCA FC will be Uganda’s representatives in the 2021 CECAFA Kagame Cup to be held in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
CECAFA has confirmed that the CECAFA Kagame Cup will be placed between 1st – 15th August.
Express, who are the newly crowned Uganda Premier League champions, will be featuring in the tournament for the first time in nine years.
The Red Eagles last took part in the 2013 CECAFA Kagame Cup which was held in Sudan and emerged as quarter finalists after losing 2-0 to Rwanda’s APR.
KCCA are the current title holders after winning the most recent edition held in 2019 in Rwanda. They beat Azam 1-0 in the final to win the title for the second time in history.
Yanga Africans and Azam will represent Tanzania while Malawi Premier League side Big Bullets FC will take part in the tournament as guests.
CAF Champions League quarter finalists and Tanzanian champions Simba SC will once again miss the tournament.
APR (Rwanda), South Sudan’s Atlabara, Burundian champions Le Messager Ngozi, Tusker of Kenya and KMKM are other teams that will be at the tournament.
Auka Gecheo, the CECAFA Executive Director confirmed that the draw for the tournament will be held on July 27th.
“ This tournament will help our teams in the region prepare for the CAF competitions that start in September.”
” We shall also have a guest team from Malawi to spice up the tournament,” added Gecheo. Uganda will be represented by the KCCA FC, the defending champions and the 2020/2021 Uganda Premier League champions Express FC.” He added.
