The Azam Uganda Premier League may have concluded but there is something left to play for and that’s the Uganda cup.
League Champions Kcca fc will be hosting 10 time champions and record holders Express in the first leg of semi-final tomorrow at the Philip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
Express who finished 6th in the league will be looking forward to end the season with silverware, also at stake for them is an opportunity to secure a spot in the CAF Confederations cup next year should they win the Cup, while Kcca are in search of a cup double something the club has never achieved since its inception in 1963.
However, both sides have to first tussle it out in the semifinals with the return leg coming 4 days later.
Express left back Yayo Lutimba says,
“We want to end the season with a trophy. Kcca is a great team with good players but we are ready for them.”
Express will bank on youngster Mahad Yaya Kakooza, Semujju Joseph and dancing winger Simon Serunkuma for a positive result.
Coach Matia Lule has all his squad players available for selection save for only three injury concerns. Nigerian defender Vincent Onyebuchi who broke his leg 3 weeks ago, Martin Bunjo and Nsubuga Rashid are ruled out of tomorrow’s encounter.
“We want to win a cup double and make history since it will be the first of its kind in the history of the club.” Said Tom Masiko.
The high flying midfielder has scored 3 goals in the last 5 Kcca games including a belter that saw off Club Africain on Tuesday. Kcca will be without Allan Okello and Benjamin Ochan who have been granted a rest while former Express skipper Saddam Juma is not eligible to play.
Express come into this game having drawn 2-2 with Soana in the last game of the season last week while Kcca are highly boosted by the 2-1 win over Tunisian heavyweights Club Africain in the CAF confederations cup.
This will be a game between a club looking to end the season with a trophy and one looking to write history. The winner will face Paidha Black Angels or Sadolin Paints in the final at the Greenlight Stadium in Arua on 10th June.
