The FUFA competitions disciplinary panel has handed a four match ban to Express FC captain Michael Birungi for unsporting conduct towards the match officials.
Birungi is accused of attacking referee Alex Muhabi and his crew after Express’ loss to Tooro United on 29th January 2019 at Buhinga grounds in Fort portal.
A statement signed by the head of the FUFA competitions disciplinary panel read,
” Case no. 0011/UPL/2019, Express captain shirt number 11 Michael Birungi attacked officials at the center of the field of play immediately after the match Tooro United Vs Express FC on 29/01/2019, actions of Express FC captain tantamount to a breach of FUFA competitions rules”.
” Express FC captain Michael Birungi is suspended for four official competitions match for unsporting conduct towards the match officials”.
Birungi is a pivotal component of Express FC’s attack have registered his name on the scoreboard for 3 times and a number of assists.
Birungi will start serving the suspension with immediate effect starting with Sunday’s tie against BUL FC at Njeru. He will also miss the trip to Mbarara against Nyamityobora on Tuesday 12.
The other games will be a home tie against Maroons FC and finally the Uganda Cup meeting with Police FC.
