El Merrikh scored two late goals inside the last 10 minutes of the game courtesy of Bakri Almadina (penalty) and Ibrahim Altag.

Dan Muzeyi Sserunkuuma pulled one back soon after conceding the second goal to enable Javier Martinez Espinoza’s coached side leave Sudan with something to reckon about ahead of the return leg match.

El Merrikh had won a penalty in the first half following a foul by Noah Wafula but Ahmed Adam saw his effort kiss the upright before going wide.

Vipers will aim at making amends when the two sides face off in the second leg at Kitende on Wednesday 5th December.

The Ugandan champions must win their return fixture if at all they stand a chance to progress to the next round where they will face Algeria’s CS Constantine or Gamtel of Gambia.
