Egyptian FA reducts foreign quota players

The Egyptian Football Association has announced a reduction in the number of foreign players in the topflight league, the second and third division.

The slots for foreign players in each of the top-flight clubs have been reduced from five to only four starting next season.

Second division clubs are now allowed to sign a maximum of two players while only one foreign player is allowed for each third division club.

The Egyptian Premier League is home to seven Ugandan players as of April 2020.
The seven are Emmanuel Okwi (Al Ittihad Alexandria), Allan Kyambadde (El Gounah), Khalid Aucho (Misr El Makkasa), Abdu Lumala (Pyramids), Derrick Nsibambi (Smouha) Taddeo Lwanga (Tanta FC) and Patrick Kaddu who is currently on loan at Ismaily from RS Berkane.

Noteworthy, the clubs are not allowed to sign foreign goalkeepers.

Players from Palestine, Syria or from the North African region (Morocco, Algeria, Libya and Tunisia) are not counted as foreigners.

The Egyptian top-flight league has attracted players from Brazil, Greece, Colombia, Peru, Haiti, Netherlands, France, Madagascar, Zambia, Angola, Syria, Mauritania, West Africa, Cecafa region among other countries.
