Egyptian FA announce resume date for Egyptian Premier League

The Egyptian Football Association has announced August 7th as the date for the resumption of the Egyptian Premier League.

Football in Egypt has been on a halt since March 14th following an outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the North African country.

Hossam El Zanaty, director of the Egyptian Football Association’s Competitions Committee, confirmed that the league will officially start following a five-month break.

El Zanaty confirmed that the league will return with the postponed games as they wait on when CAF will decide on the date of the CAF Champions League semi-final and final.

It should be noted that Al Ahly and Zamalek SC are one of the four teams that are set to compete for the CAF Champions League title when the competition resumes in September.

The Egyptian top-flight clubs have already resumed training after players underwent several coronavirus tests. However, the final decision on the fate of the lower leagues of Egyptian football will be decided next week.

Seven Uganda Cranes players represent Uganda in the Egyptian top-flight league that is; Emmanuel Okwi (El Ittihad Alexandria), Patrick Kaddu (Ismailia SC), Derrick Nsibambi (Smouha SC), Khalid Aucho (Misr El Makkasa), Tadeo Lwanga (Tanta FC), Allan Kyambadde (El Gounah) and Pyramids’ Abdul Lumala is already ruled out injured.

Al Ahly are run-away leaders having garnered 49 points from the 17 games played so far, 16 points clear of second-placed Arab Contractors who have played a game more.
