The Confederation of African football has confirmed Egypt as the 2019 AFCON hosts in an extraordinary assembly held on Tuesday 8th January in Dakar, Senegal.
Egypt scooped 16 votes to beat 2013 hosts South Africa who only managed one vote. The two nations were the only ones to confirm their candidature.
The record champions now replace Cameroon who had originally beat Algeria and Ivory coast but were stripped of their hosting rights due to delay in construction and question marks on security.
Egypt last hosted the tournament in 2006 when they beat Ivory Coast on penalties. The 24 team event will be held between June 15th to July 13th 2019.
