Debutant Paul Mucurezi scored the all important goal as Vipers SC edged struggling Kyetume FC 1-0 at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

The visitors missed the services of skipper Vincent Kayizzi, midfielder Isaac Kirabira and custodian Joel Mutakubwa.

Mucurezi who made his move to the Kitende based side earlier this month, opened his account in the ninth minute when he fired in a quality Tito Okello cross to send the home fans into ecstasy.

Youngster Abdul Karim Watambala nearly doubled the hosts advantage early in the second period of the contest but was denied by defender Jonathan Mugabi.

Cephas Kambugu had a decent chance to level matters for Kyetume but his header off a Ibrahim Kazindula corner went inches over the bar.

Vipers top scorer this campaign, Fahad Bayo was also inches away from opening his 2020 account in the 72nd minute but his powerful header hit the bar.

Kyetume left back Steven Sande’s and forward Noel Nasasira all had chances that would have at least secured a point for the visitors.

Vipers SC remain top of the log with 39 points in 16 games and will next face Proline FC whereas Kyetume FC are 12th on table with 16 points in 16 games.

Kyetume FC will host struggling Tooro United in their next game.
